I just bought a Cardputer (M5 Stack v0.9) and I'm trying to change the firmware to a custom version. I'm using Windows 11 (22631.3085) with M5Burner-v3-beta-win-x64. Just for the record, have Python 3.11.4.</p>
<p dir="auto">I want to install the "Nemo" firmware (<a href="https://github.com/n0xa/m5stick-nemo" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc">https://github.com/n0xa/m5stick-nemo</a> I am aware that it is an unofficial version) and I am following the following steps on the documentation: <a href="https://docs.m5stack.com/en/quick_start/m5stickc_plus/uiflow" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc">https://docs.m5stack.com/en/quick_start/m5stickc_plus/uiflow</a></p>
<ol>
<li>Installed FTDI drivers;</li>
<li>Downloaded M5 Burner</li>
<li>Downloaded Nemo 2.3.3 inside M5 Burner</li>
<li>M5 Burner finds COM3.</li>
<li>When trying to burn, I get stuck connecting to the device and get the following error:</li>

<li>I checked the troubleshooting page. The device is being powered via USB, I have tried all bauld rates available on the M5Burner. I tried using Arduino's IDE Serial Monitor to check the connection, but the device was not recognized. Error persists.</li>

Also try a different USB cable (some are charge-only), and plug directly into your PC (avoid hubs). Lastly, check Device Manager to confirm the COM port is stable and not switching. If all else fails, try flashing with esptool manually via command line.</p>

It installed one USB driver but failed to install the 'USB JTAG/serial debug monitor' driver.<br />
Where can I find this driver to download for Windows 7 ?<br />
At the moment when I hit the 'Burn' button on the Burner program I get an error box pop up which says 'Get mac failed'</p>

I had seen somewhere that a CP2102 driver for windows was necessary, that appears to be not required. After numerous tries with a USB A to USB -C cables which had the data and power wired through, I went and bought a fat cable capable of 60W and fast data - as soon as I pressed G0 and inserted the cable windows immediately assigned a COM Port.<br />
I am very grateful that you pointed out that the Stamp-S3 has its own built USB&gt;TTL converter!</p>

Then remembered I had the FlipperZero box with me and tried that cable - which WORKED! So, this is not the main reason to buy one obviously, but if you do have one and you're experiencing this error on a Mac (M1) then this is something to try. The "not in bootloader mode" error is a little misleading in this case as the cardputer was doing its part, but the first "trusted" cable was not!</p>

The issue is that the drivers are not being recognised by Windows 10 when the cardputer is not connected and so when it is connected via USB and G0 + RST are pressed USB JTAB is not activated. There is a permanent yellow triangle next to whatever flavour of  CP210X driver is installed.<br />
I now believe that the CP2102 driver not being recognised by Windows 10/11 is a read herring and I wasted a lot of time in research on the web to try to get it going. In the end I got a 'fat' USBA-USBC cable capable of fast data and 60W power charging.<br />
I then did as you suggested and immediately Windows recognised the device and assigned it a COM Port.<br />

For reference, it was this cable <a href="https://shopee.com.br/Cabo-Turbo-Hrebos-Tipo-c-tipo-c-3.0A-1.2m-Hs-133-i.434128111.9058678833" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc">here</a>. There is no specification, it is one of the cheapest you can find. With it, I just pressed BtnGo and connected. In fact, the S3's LED did not blink or light up at any time.</p>

<p dir="auto">Then I ask on discord channel hackingtroop about the problem, and their sugesto to try another cable, It's works. But one point of attention, the LED don't work as expected, anyway the cardputer enter on download mode.</p>
<p dir="auto">Hold BtnGO, plug in o cable, and burn firmware. With the new cable, just plug and MM5Burner show pop-up about device found.</p>

<p dir="auto">Thank you very much to everyone who commented and helped, but I think I'll stop here. It took so many tries that some of the S3 pins are starting to bend, even though I'm careful when removing/inserting the chip.</p>
<p dir="auto">I think I could end up damaging the cardputer if I continue with this stress on the components. I must continue my studies with simpler devices like the Portapack Mayhem until further notice.</p>
