I have an Atom Matrix which I cannot connect to. No serial connection or serial timeouts. It seems to work regularly since it powers on and cycles through the matrix colors as expected when pushing the button.

Unless I am missing a secret trick to program it, or there is a way to "hard reset" it, I am suspecting the USB connection / USB UART is faulty.

Would it be possible to use an external FTDI Adapter to connect to the externally accessible pins and program it this way?

Any hints appreciated.

Thank you!

unfortunately no, to manually put ESP32 into download mode GPIO1, GPIO3 and GPIO0 are required, none of them are externally accessible. Also see schematic here.

Thanks
