How does compatibility between devices work?

M5burner has several options for Core, could I use or convert some of them to Core2 v1.1?
Sorry if the question is a bit stupid, I'm starting with these devices.

No, There is a Slight difference between the hardware configuration for each controller.
Only use firmware marked for the specific controller. -
Isn't there the possibility of taking the source code and adapting it to my device? Or are the codes not available?
