Making a MIDI controller. MIDI over USB?

I'm trying to make a small MIDI controller that sends IMU data as MIDI CC values over USB MIDI on an M5AtomS3 Lite. I cannot get the device to be seen as a MIDI device.
Does anyone have a working example of how to make USB MIDI work using the same or similar microcontroller?
