Speaker play wave file Pause function?

I am trying to implement something like a music player on the Fire
I am using the built-in speaker. On Button clicked event I call the "Speaker play WAV file" function with a file from the sdcard. Ideally I would like to Pause the music when I press the button again. However, it seems that the button event isn't triggered when I press the button. As a matter of fact, neither are the events of the other two buttons triggered while the music is still playing.Is there a way to pause and resume the music?
Is there a way to not block everything else while playing the music? -
