How to connect base Esp32 to m145 stack

When I connect the QRCode module to a 9 V barrel jack, it doesn’t power on. I’d also like to know the best way to build a driver so the ESP32 can communicate directly with the scanner, since the Arduino example code provided only works inside the M5Stack ecosystem.
