I made a Cardputer ADV firmware to use micropython REPL on the device directly. It also include a build-in text editor.

You can download the compiled firmware from M5Burner. I will add more features in the future. Please leave your suggestions and questions in the comments. -
Update: Add screen brightness adjustment and 7 UI color to choose from.
